Unlike audio streaming, Video streaming requires large amounts of bandwidth for big audiences. This can become a very expensive proposition for a Internet broadcaster. However, there are several companies that offer the ability to stream video for free. They provide the necessary bandwidth and software necessary for encoding the video. These companies are able to provide these services for free by inserting click through advertising into the video stream. (Similar to Google Adsense for video.) This generates enough money to support the free streaming services. Several features that are offere... Read Full Post »

Authored by cuddles71 - Winamp Forums Firstly, let me state that I am NOT naming any names here, nor am I implying that any of the DJs at our station (or any other) fits into any of these categories. This is merely a humorous look at the various personality types that I have encountered in the past year of dealing with internet radio. An important thing to remember as you read this is the fact that DJs are people too, so any one DJ may not fit into a specific ca... Read Full Post »

Featured music on The Dark Side Radio station : rock, metal, some rap,
a little country
Brent ( aka Sithikins ) is the owner / operator of the station.
Brent got his interest in broadcasting by watching a friend doing it
and deciding that he wanted to try it since it seemed so easy. The main
reason is that it has always been something that he has always wanted
to do. "I remember taping myself Dj'ing my parents' records when I was
about 9 - faking phone calls, even."
Darkside Radio has been broadcasting
on the Internet for 2 month... Read Full Post »

Did You Know They Considered Broadcasting Television From Airplanes ?

Stratovision was a concept envisioned by the Glenn L. Martin Company and the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Aircraft were to be used as a platform to broadcast Television signals. Television broadcasting rely on "Line of Site" propagation, and would reach a larger audience potential with lower transmiter power if the broadcasts were made from an aircraft. It was advocated that this service could be used to provide television coverage for small towns and rural areas as well as the large metropolitan centers. Actual Television broadcasts were made using this concept. The nonprofit org... Read Full Post »

Yesterday, i had quite a fun experience. Edge Radio asked me to join along and help out on a live broadcast at the Mental Health Week event at the Botanical Gardens. It was fantastic, everything went smoothly even though we had a bit of a tight timeframe to put in interviews with stallholders while battling with the live music in the stall next door!
Anyway, this was my first live broadcast outside of a studio, and from a pretty big event! There was about 5 schools attending from the area, th... Read Full Post »

Broadcasting on the Internet provides anyone with the ability to make
their voice heard or their images seen. The Internet can provide a
global audience that can be rarely achieved by terrestrial
broadcasters. There are no special licenses required for broadcasting
on the Internet and the tools are readily available for creating your
very own Internet Radio or Television station.
Every kind of genre of music or video can be found being delivered to
the great masses on the Internet. You can listen to or watch broadcasts
